Jean-Charles Saben, Owner

Jean-Charles (JC) Saben was raised in Paris, France and came to the U.S. 25 years ago. JC has 40 years of experience
in the restaurant industry. He worked at the prestigious Rainbow
Room located in Rockefeller Center, NYC for over 15 years as a senior captain. JC has extensive experience in all aspects
of gourmet food preparation and creative presentation. Trained in
Europe, JC has thorough working knowledge of both front- and back-of-the-house
operations.

Marla
Saben, Owner

Marla Saben was raised on Long Island, NY and subsequently lived, studied, and worked in Manhattan for 15 years. Marla received her Bachelors degree from New York University and her Masters degree from Columbia University. For 12 years, she worked for the professional services firms of PricewaterhouseCoopers and KPMG specializing in project management, marketing and sales, events planning and communications. Marla and JC met while on vacation in Santorini, Greece, and their first conversation was about a great lunch spot (an omen?)

Zoe Saben, Muse

Zoe is Marla and JC's 7-year-old daughter. She specializes in dessert tasting, with a particular affinity for chocolate.

Noah Saben

Noah is Marla and JC's two-year-old son. He was eating a full ribeye at nine months, without a single tooth.

Scott
Jay Jacobson, Executive Chef

With
fifteen years experience including positions at some of Manhattan's
premier theater district restaurants, Chef Scott Jacobson decided
to return to his roots in New Jersey to work as Executive Chef at
Zoe's by the Lake.

Scott's
focus is classic French with an American and Caribbean influence,
from which he enjoys the freedom of creating new dishes using a
mix of local produce, fresh seafood and herbs with traditional pastas
and meats.

Upon
graduating with high honors from the Culinary Institute of America
(CIA) in Hyde Park, NY, Scott worked under premier Chef Patrick
Pinon at the Palm Terrace Restaurant in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Scott
returned to New York in 1996 and later worked at FireBird, a famous
pre-Revolutionary Russian restaurant. Soon after, he attained the
position of Sous Chef at Rene Pujol, a French restaurant in New
York's theater district, where he developed an affinity for simply
elegant, cutting-edge cuisine.
